This project consisted of extensive renovation of the first floor of an existing occupied YMCA to stimulate this struggling location and provide handicapped access. The limited budget was met as was the six week construction schedule. Effected spaces include the Front Entrance, Front Desk, Lobby, Cardio, Free Weight and Nautilus Rooms, Administrative Offices, Child Watch and Bathrooms.
In addition to updating its athletic facilities, this YMCA branch is currently looking to renovate the top two floors of its structure to accommodate 42 enhanced Single Room Occupancy dwelling units. Originally built as a YMCA between 1893 and 1911, these floors then housed 58 boarding rooms. The planned renovations return to a program consistent with the building’s original design and mission of providing affordable, well supported housing in Fall River.
